Introduction

The non-profit association FerroForum is committed to the preservation, enhancement and intelligent conversion of industrial heritage, in particular the former central workshop of the ‘Metzeschmelz’ dating from 1913 and listed as a national monument.

FerroForum sees itself as a benevolent player in the community, open to its neighbours, promoting creative encounters and open debate, and encouraging people to live and work together, regardless of gender, age, social class or profession. Through these activities, FerroForum perpetuates the art of ironworking and iron processing by promoting creativity, training and innovation.

FerroForum aims to preserve and promote the identity of a region that has shaped landscapes, minds and characters. Embracing and promoting this heritage means revitalising it while respecting its multifaceted socio-cultural dimension.

Our spaces:

  • The Workshops: laboratories for creation and experimentation, equipped with a wide range of functional tools covering the whole technical spectrum, from archaeological testing to new technologies
  • The Ressourcerie: central archives containing documentation and research about the history and technologies of iron and steel manufacturing.
  • The Outillage: our bar, open during public events.

Open at selected moments to the general public, FerroForum aspires to be a generator of ideas, an incubator for projects and available to all sorts of people: artist collectives, former steelworkers, artisan blacksmiths, researchers, historians, students and other groups.

Our missions:

  • Artisan creation and manufacturing
  • Training and education
  • Promotion of archival collections and collections
  • Cultural and tourist programming
