The Feierôwend! evening on September 6 was a real success!
Conceived with Laura Steil, a researcher in contemporary history at the University of Luxembourg (C2DH), Feierôwend! aims to immerse the public in the festive atmosphere that has made the ‘iron metropolis’ famous beyond its role in industry. By offering to (re)experience something of working-class history at the very heart of the factory, Feierôwend! shifts and reinvents our relationship with the industrial past.
For its second edition, Feierôwend! collaborated with the University of Luxembourg and was held at the close of the 7th World Conference of the International Federation for Public History. The conference participants clearly enjoyed ending the conference with a historical party!
The little standard dance class organised by Fernand and Laura was a great success, and got the crowd polishing up the dance floor just as they did back in the day!
To celebrate these balls in the Grenz working-class district of Esch-sur-Alzette, Luciano Pagliarini and his orchestra opened the ball with their ‘Danzmusek’, and the Loon Djs followed with their ‘retroplatinodisco’, pure vintage vinyl, late into the night.
Marc Thein’s lights bathed the Atelier Central in an unusual festive play of colours, and the old walls were all aglow.
At the end (…much later than planned 🤫), our team had to reluctantly insist that the wild dancers leave the dance floor and head home.
Thank you Romain Girtgen, for this wonderful photographic documentation!
As befits an evening with such a name, there was also plenty of iron and fire action on the programme: Alain and Ern made sparks fly at the forge, Fränk and Marc laser-cut the Feier! logo as a souvenir for visitors, and Brasero-girls Tammy and Sally kept the wood fires burning 🔥🔥.
The catering team spoiled us with their delights: Toni and Pino with Polenta, Claude and Carlo with chips, and father and son Kieffer with sausages! And of course there were all the other members of the team who worked hard to make this party unforgettable.
Our friends from Millebéier were a great success with their tasting of craft beers, in short, the gallery was in raptures!
