A geological walk in Serge Ecker’s Anthroposcape

For the third edition of our geological walk, there were plenty of enthusiasts. This time, we took you to the old open-cast mines between Kayl and Rumelange, where the route is punctuated by works by visual artist Serge Ecker:

‘Anthroposcapes, fragments of a landscape transformed by humans and their machines, these traces create a link between the current state, digital capture (Lidar) and my personal memory of this terrain. Post-digital memory aids in cast iron produced by the Massard foundry show the topography of the site, which is transformed every year by a nature that hides the wounds following the cessation of iron ore mining.’

Geologist Robert Maquil told us about the geological and mining history of these hills, illustrated by Serge Ecker’s cast iron reliefs.
